"And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." Luke 10:17-18

In a sense, there is more instruction on genuine spiritual warfare in the above passage than all the rest of the passages on this subject in the entire Bible combined.
Of course, the man who is not truly indwelt by the Holy Spirit and who consequently possesses not even an iota of genuine spiritual warfare experience can only vaguely grasp at this concept mentally, but he who has been previously engaged experientially in genuine spiritual warfare supernaturally by the Holy Spirit, and who has experientially conquered Satan by unseating him from thrones of power and occupation in the genuine salvation of souls knows very well what I mean.
As did the Apostle Paul, who penned these corresponding and parallel words:

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12

It all boils down to abiding in Jesus by the Spirit and thereby capturing and holding spiritual ground by holy conquest, for this is war on the highest plane, and it cannot be won by anything less than all-out assault, by unseating Satan from occupied territory on high, or in heavenly spheres, for in just the same way that the archangel Michael - who was outranked by Satan - yet in just the same way that the archangel Michael dislodged Satan from his position of authority when disputing about the body of Moses, charging, “The Lord rebuke thee,” (Jude 9), so must the Christian do when disputing about the souls of the lost. There is not one whit less difference in conquering Satan in the salvation of souls than Michael’s confrontation with Satan. Not one whit, for the Christian must fight this fight in genuine supernatural power, and with greater testimony than that of Michael, which means that the Christian must contend with Satan by the very resurrection power of Jesus Christ HIMSELF in the supernatural unction of the Spirit of Christ, even the Holy Spirit, and nothing less (Acts 4:33, Romans 1:4, Philippians 3:10).
Otherwise he will not win. Not in this arena. Not in the arena of the salvation of souls. Unless the Christian can fight as the apostles fought, and in the same power and strength and holy ferocity as the apostles, he will not win. Not in the arena of the salvation of souls. In this arena, even the truly born again Christian will not win any other way.
But then, few do. Indeed, in every generation, even among those who are genuinely born again, few win in this arena.
For there is a price to pay, and a heavy one at that. Watchman Nee captured the essence of it with these words:

"Spiritual warfare accordingly demands an attitude of total death to feeling and an absolute trust in God. Only a person with this attitude can bear up alone and not seek companions or man's approval in fighting the enemy. Only this caliber of Christian can proceed under all sorts of anguished feelings. He cares not at all for his life nor about death but only cares for the leading of God. He indulges no personal interest, desire, or longing. He has offered himself to death already and then lives exclusively for God. He neither blames nor misunderstands Him because he considers all His ways to be loving. This is the class of person who is able to fill the breach. Though he may appear to be deserted by God and forgotten by men, yet he mans his battle station. He is a prayer warrior. He overcomes Satan." Watchman Nee, The Spiritual Man

I spent eight months fasting and praying for a particular person many years ago. Naturally, I don’t mean that I fasted the entire eight months, or that I prayed continuously the entire eight months, but rather, that I set aside days of fasting and prayer solely for that particular individual over a period of about eight months. Moreover, this was unchartered territory for me at that time, for I had not been saved very long myself, but the Holy Spirit pressed this burden upon my spirit, and so the Lord made his hand heavy upon me in this matter, so that I could do no other.
Consequently, afterwards, after I had gotten the victory in that eight month struggle, after I had unseated Satan from his position of authority in that individual’s life by consecrated fasting and prayer in the supernatural power of the Spirit of Christ, that individual was correspondingly saved in the same manner that the first Gentiles in the house of Cornelius were saved, as recorded in the book of Acts:

"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 10:44-45

In other words, after my eight month assault in the power of the Holy Spirit against Satan for this individual's soul, which I will demonstrate how to do in this little booklet, and while together with this individual on one occasion, and with the individual's permission, I offered a brief verbal prayer to the Father in Jesus' name, and in that moment, even while I yet spake, the Holy Ghost fell on this person with great power, just like with Peter and the household of Cornelius in the book of Acts, and thus this person was baptized into the body of Christ and given eternal life in Jesus Christ by the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the supernatural resurrection miracle of the new birth (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Of course, I was just as astonished by this event as Peter and the other believers were when the Holy Ghost fell on the house of Cornelius. I had no idea that the Lord Jesus was going to save this individual in this moment and in this circumstance. In fact, my prayer, which consisted of only a few words, wasn’t strictly about salvation, but rather about God revealing his righteousness in the Person of Jesus Christ. In other words, as I remember it, my prayer was only one sentence, maybe two, and that’s all it took, for while I yet spake, the Holy Ghost came down.
But that’s how God works, for in most cases you never see God’s answer to prayer coming, at least not with regard to the timing and circumstance. In other words, even though I had some assurance that God would save this individual - for though I didn’t recognize it at the time, yet the fact that the Lord’s hand was heavy upon me in this matter for those eight months, the fact that the Holy Spirit had placed such a heavy burden upon my spirit for this individual’s soul for those eight months, was a strong indicator that it was God’s will to bring salvation to this soul, for contrary to the ignorance and fleshly wisdom of many these days, it is not God’s perfect will to save every single soul, but rather, it is God’s will to save only the few, as Jesus HIMSELF so emphatically taught (Matthew 7:14, &c.), but more of this anon - so while I did entertain some spiritual assurance that God would save this individual, yet I was completely unaware as to the timing and manner in which he would do it. But do it he did, and with the same supernatural resurrection power that the Lord Jesus always imposes when he genuinely saves a soul, for it takes - literally - it literally takes the very resurrection power of Jesus Christ HIMSELF to regenerate a man, and nothing less.
